Coleman and Knupp, LLC can provide data, analysis, and expert testimony regarding any weather-related issues that affect your case. Specifically, our areas of expertise include the following:
Rainfall and Flooding
The evaluation of historical rainfall involves complex analysis. We at Coleman and Knupp LLC have developed a technique through which we produce accurate reports of rainfall intensity and accumulated rainfall for time intervals ranging from two minutes to 100 years. By combining radar data with rain observations, we provide high-resolution (2-3 minute) rainfall rate and accumulation analyses for any location in the continental United States, including those without nearby rain gauges. We also determine the return period of these rainfall events at a location and time period.

Wind Damage
Using Doppler radar data, surface observations, and ambient atmospheric conditions, we provide high-resolution analyses of wind speeds within thunderstorm or straight-line wind events, hurricanes, tornadoes, or other non-traditional wind events. Using surface roughness and numerical calculations, we can determine how winds would have changed with height at high-rise buildings. We can also determine the probable level of damage the wind would likely have caused at a specific location at a specific date/time in the past.

Lightning
We have access to precise reports on the times and locations of lightning strikes (or the lack thereof). Lightning data is often used in claims involving structural fires or damage to electronics, electrical appliances, and utility equipment.

Hail Damage
Given our expertise in the thermodynamics of severe thunderstorms, and our experience using the cutting-edge technology of dual-polarization radar, we can determine the likelihood of large hail at a specific location and time in the past. This analysis is particularly useful in insurance claims involving hail damage to roofs, vehicles, and crops.

Temperature and Humidity
We can provide temperature and humidity data for thousands of locations across the United States. Some data is one-minute resolution, other data is daily. We also analyze temperature, humidity, and wind data to examine heat stress and heat index, cold stress and wind chill, and frost and freeze information.

Visibility and Fog
Visibility may be impacted by rain, fog, smoke, sun angle, and daylight. Satellite data, in combination with surface data, rainfall intensity, solar calculations, and air quality information, may be used to produce reports on visibility. Such data are particularly useful in automobile accidents, where vision may be impaired by fog, smoke, darkness, or even by looking into the sun.

Event Monitoring and Forecasting
Using high-tech weather observing equipment, forecasting experience, and climatology, we can provide long-term (months in advance) to short-term (hour in advance) forecasts for weather-critical outdoor events such as sporting events and weddings, and also provide observations for rain insurance.
